Student Data & Responsible AI Notice

Effective date: August 5, 2026 · Last updated: August 5, 2026

A short, practical guide to using GradeLikeMe the way it is designed to be used.

GradeLikeMe supports instructor judgment; it does not replace it. Always review and approve generated feedback before sharing it with a student.

Use de-identified work only. Remove student names, IDs, email addresses, links to personal profiles, and identifying details before submission.

A faculty-support tool, not a grading authority

GradeLikeMe drafts feedback from your assignment, your rubric, and your stated teaching voice. It does not assign a final grade and has no authority over any student outcome. The instructor decides what the student sees and what score is recorded.

De-identify before you submit

Remove the following before pasting or uploading work:

  • Student name or initials when they could identify the student
  • Student ID number
  • Email address
  • Phone number
  • Home address
  • Social-media account
  • Personal-profile link
  • Government identifier
  • Medical or disability information
  • Financial information
  • Names of family members
  • Embedded file metadata where applicable
  • Any unusual personal detail that could reasonably identify the student

Uploaded files are read in your browser and converted to editable text so you can delete identifying details before anything is sent for drafting.

Do not use GradeLikeMe for high-impact decisions

Do not use GradeLikeMe to make or justify admissions, disciplinary, disability-accommodation, financial-aid, employment, academic-integrity, or other high-impact decisions about a person. It is not designed, tested, or validated for those uses.

AI can be wrong and can reflect bias

Generated text can misread a paper, invent a quotation, misapply a rubric level, produce inconsistent results across similar work, or reflect bias present in training data. Before using any draft, verify:

  • Quotations and any text attributed to the student
  • Evidence claims and page or paragraph references
  • Rubric alignment for every criterion
  • Point totals and arithmetic
  • Factual statements about the subject matter
  • Tone and fairness relative to how you grade other students

Follow your institution's policies

Your college or university may have rules about AI use in grading, about handling student work, and about approving third-party tools. Follow them, and obtain authorization where it is required. GradeLikeMe cannot grant that authorization for you.

What we do not claim

GradeLikeMe is not represented as FERPA compliant, COPPA compliant, HIPAA compliant, institutionally approved, independently audited, or certified against any security standard. We describe what the product does and leave compliance determinations to your institution.

For departments and institutions

If your department or institution is considering GradeLikeMe, contact [OWNER REVIEW REQUIRED] — support email so privacy, security, contractual, and data-processing requirements can be reviewed before faculty adopt it.
